Our Story
A Taste of Hungary in Toronto
Budapest Restaurant was founded by Edit Csoma and her wife, Loriemhe Ditchon, with a shared dream of bringing the flavours, traditions, and hospitality of Hungarian cuisine to Toronto. Inspired by the warmth of Hungarian family gatherings, they created a place where guests could enjoy traditional recipes, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere that feels like sitting at a family table.

The restaurant first opened in Toronto’s east end and quickly became a favourite destination for guests looking for traditional Hungarian comfort food. Over the years, Budapest Restaurant has grown while staying true to its roots, becoming known for classic dishes, homemade desserts, and the friendly hospitality that reflects Hungarian culture. Today, the restaurant welcomes guests at its home on Danforth Avenue, continuing a tradition of sharing Hungarian flavours with the Toronto community.

From paprika-rich gulyás and golden Wiener schnitzels to cabbage rolls and handcrafted desserts, Budapest Restaurant celebrates recipes that have been enjoyed in Hungarian kitchens for generations. What began as a small dream has grown into a gathering place where friends, families, and food lovers can experience the traditions, flavours, and hospitality of Hungary in Toronto.

Our menu celebrates the flavours many Hungarians grew up with while introducing Hungarian culinary traditions to new generations of guests.
